With 11,000 people confirmed dead and other 5,000 missing, Friday’s earthquake has been declared Japan’s biggest catastrophe since the end of WW2. Friends and relatives are trying to locate each other but with a damaged infrastructure, this is proven to be quite difficult.
Google has now launched a version of its Person Finder to aide Japan’s victims to locate the missing ones easier. Currently having 245,300 records, the 2011 Japan Earthquake interface acts as a directory and message board so people can look for missing loved ones or post a message announcing they are safe.
I only just realised the other day that I’m half way through my internship at Banc Media. Conveniently, this gives me my theme for this week, a blog to celebrate reaching the halfway point. It’s been an amazing learning curve for me and I’m really excited about what’s next in line.
It seems like forever ago, but when I first started my job my knowledge of Search Engine Marketing was very limited. With only a basic knowledge of Pay Per Click and Search Engine Optimisation, I hadn’t got a clue about the techniques involved in guaranteeing their success. It was as if I had all the right ingredients, but I just didn’t know the recipe. When I arrived here, I never imagined that working in the Client Services Department will entail so many activities. This week we celebrate our PPC Manager Emma Crowe’s birthday. We all wish her a very Happy Birthday and a brilliant year ahead. I’m sure you’ll join me in wishing her many happy returns.
This celebration actually offers me an ideal link to the rest of this blog, because thanks to Emma’s hard work as head of the PPC department, this week we’ve received further proof of the excellent results Banc Media produces. We launched a new PPC campaign for one of our customers in January and the Account has achieved an impressive 9.98 Quality Score from Google. We all know how difficult is to even get a QS higher than 7/8, so to get a 9.98 score from the very beginning is an impressive achievement that we are proud to announce to you all.
As well as this, for another of our PPC customers, on a year-on-year analysis, January 2011 has delivered a 288% increase in Clicks for a 67% decrease in CPC, and all of these excellent figures are down to constant monitoring, campaign and bids optimisation on the part of the PPC department.

It’s been a week full of events and it’s still going strong. Let me give you more details.
Our Client Services Director Neil was back from his holidays on Monday and we had a bit of catching up to do with the Account Management Team. Apparently, we’ve done a pretty good job while he was away, so I’m really pleased with myself. After our catch up, we decided on the steps we need to take to go forward with our current SEO and PPC campaigns for our clients. Later on in the afternoon, we were given the weekly feedback from one of our PPC clients, and discovered that last week’s ROI was up 102% year-on-year. We were very pleased with this, as it was a steady continuation of the trend from the last couple of weeks.
