It should not surprise anyone to know that internet advertising has been big business for a number of years now. With the amount of time we all spend online, it is only natural that advertisers should target this market.
Recently, the value of online advertising in the UK has taken a big leap, with the Internet Advertising Bureau and accountants PwC reporting an increase of 12.8% in 2010. As a result, the country’s internet advertising is now worth over £4billion.
This has seen online advertising become the main player in the advertising market, which is finding its feet again after a slide during the recession.
Leading the way in terms of growth was display advertising on social networking sites, which soared almost 200%. Facebook in particular has gone to great lengths to convince advertisers that social networks are the best platform for their products. Their reward has been a 27.5% share of the year-on-year rise in online display marketing.
Statistics show that UK internet users spend 25% of the time they spend online browsing social networking sites, so it is obvious why advertisers wish to target this.
