It looks like someone may lose their job in Sweden this week as it emerged that a full stop missing from the script to update the .se domain had the effect of removing all websites with the .se domain extension.
That’s 900,000 websites! Not just that, but any emails to a .se domain name were not received either. The problem is exacerbated because although the mistake was resolved quickly at source, the DNS look-up caches (hosted externally) still take their time to update.
To put this in context, the .com extension has 80,000,000 domain names and I imagine someone somewhere is totting up the £s of lost revenue that would incur – just by missing out a full stop (where is that full stop, oh there it is).
